In the fast pace of the Microsoft world, it is easy to miss major headlines that might affect you! So here we are, bringing you the latest and the greatest news from the world of Windows:

Apps:

As Windows 10 gains momentum, new apps join the ranks of the Windows Store and many fan favourites go Universal. Here’s a rundown of the major App news of the week:

  • Groove Music got a HUGE update that brought us the long-awaited feature of swipe to bring hamburger menu. This update also brought press-hold to re-order tracks within a playlist. Check out the complete list of changes here.
  • Other Core apps such as Films and TV, Outlook mail & calendar, Wallet (brings support for loyalty retail cards), Xbox app and Device hub (now Gadgets) received updates to bring awaited features.
  •   Famous twitter client Fenice turned Universal this week. It is one of the best twitter clients in my opinion. Be sure to check it out!
  • An apparent port from the Westminster bridge, Tripadvisor launched a UWP app.
  • Feature parity might soon become a reality for Windows as Twitter app for Windows 10 received an update this week that brought the ‘Moments’ feature to Windows 10.
  • Deezer is looking for beta testers for their upcoming Universal app sign up here!
  • iHeartRadio gave us a rather unique update and one that 950/XL users can boast of. With Windows Hello support and a refined UI, the app is easily one of the best updates of the week.
  • Sygic Updated their Windows Phone app to bring Parkopedia support.
  • Slack Updated  Windows Phone app to include in-app downloads and an ‘experimental’ animated gif function. This update sounds like fun! Check out here.
  • Waterlogue by Tinrocket is an app worth checking out if the photo editor in you craves some action.
  • Cortana got a rather neat and useful update recently, bringing in Microsoft health integration. The update, however, is not available to everyone at this point. But keep an eye out!
  • Cricket Australia brought its app to Windows store this week and it is a clean app, even if not completely featured.

 

GAMES:

Get your game on! These are the game news of the week.

  • Probably the biggest news for games this week has been the ‘Crazy weekend’. Game Troopers and MyAppFree collaborated to bring Game Troopers’ greatest games for free. Yes! Check it out!
  • 10tons brought “Baseball Riot” to the Windows Store. Get it here.
  • Game Insight showed some love to windows as they brought 2 of their games to Windows! Maritime Kingdom  and Love & dragons are worthy titles. Go nuts!
  • Snowboard Party 2  landed on the Windows Store. A great sequel to the smash hit Snowboard party.
  • Two great games, Sniper Fury and Elements: epic heroes were launched recently. Go check them out!
  • CSR was blessed with an update. Get it here.

  • Edge Extensions are here, people! Well, not quite. But, it has been leaked and that means, Redstone is Coming! Ad Block Plus also announced availability for edge in the near future. Good times.
  • Xbox November sales lag PS4 sales after dethroning it in October.
  • Some lucky insiders are getting free 950s and a display dock for feedback on continuum. Talk about luck, eh?
  • Band 2 gets a nice little update that makes it more productive. It now has music controls and much more! check out the detailed list of changes here.
  • Microsoft recently added a new option to Bing. Bing can now show menu favourites for restaurants. Sweet!
  • Microsoft has partnered with sprint and Swisson to bring carrier billing to windows 10
  • 950 & 950 XL are now available in Vietnam- with the free display dock offer.
  • Microsoft has apologised to its customers. Twice. The first apology came in the form of penance for the OneDrive debacle. You can now keep your 15 GB (+ 15 GB camera roll) storage forever. You have to click on this link though. Apology accepted. It is, however, worthy to note that this does not apply to the “unlimited” storage part, that is still going. The second apology was reserved for  ‘frustrated’ Surface pro 4 and Surface Book owners. Microsoft will be fixing your problems SoonTM.
  • Microsoft is offering 10 top albums from 2015 for free… for US only. Of course.
  • Panos Panay recently talked about Surface Phone, Surface Book, Ipad Pro, and Tim Cook. Trust me, you have to listen to this!
  • A cancelled-uncancelled-cancelled Lumia codenamed ‘Honjo’ resurfaced. This was to be the fateful Lumia 850. But, not anymore. 2 minutes of silence for the departed device.
  • Microsoft has received over 3000 ideas for Hololens app. That’s awesome! Here’s to hoping at least one of them works out just in time for the next BUILD (which will be held on 30th March-1st April, 2016).
